REFLECTIONS ON TODAY'S BIBLE VERSE(S):
As King David was celebrating the arrival of the Ark of the Covenant, he ordered that his music director, Asaph, and his brothers sing a psalm that he had written (1 Chronicles 16:8-36).
Within this psalm are the Verses for Today:
1 Chronicles 16:23-24 (CSB) "Let the whole earth sing to the Lord. Proclaim his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his wondrous works among all peoples."
The energy of those words jump off the page, don't they? Even though we didn't actually hear them performed, we can't help but realize that they were filled with excitement. There would have been plenty of volume and energy.
But, there's an important point here...
These powerful, positive words about praising God were the natural outflow of the exciting events surrounding them. The Ark of the Covenant had returned to Israel. Why shouldn't they be excited! It was the most natural thing they could do.
The people were overjoyed and so they sang about the wonder of their God.
Friend, if you don't find it natural to sing to God and celebrate Him, it's probably because you aren't excited about Him.
But, it's also probably because you aren't surrendering yourself to the authority and leadership of the Holy Spirit. You are firmly in control of your life rather than submitting to the control of the Holy Spirit.
Do you know one of the key attributes of someone who is filled with the Spirit? Listen to the following words...
Ephesians 5:18-19 (CSB) "And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit: speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord,"
When we are filled with the Spirit, we're going to have a song in our heart and that song will be about our wonderful Savior.
If it's been awhile since you've had a song in your heart to the Lord, ask God to do a work in your life. Confess any known sin and submit to the authority of the Holy Spirit. And then get excited about your God when you think about who He is and what He has done. The song(s) will start to flow.
